Life Is Hard

Malaika...up on the hard

"On the hard" in boat world means you have been hauled out of the water & are up on stilts/blocks. Every boat owner must do this occasionally to do projects below the water line.

Malaika getting "hauled out"
Being "on the hard" sucks. The boatyard is loud & industrial & we just can't wait to leave. We had to paint the bottom (which is protective, not cosmetic. Salt water does horrible things to most man made materials.)
Thanks to our friends Dan & Cheri, who we reunited with this week...we got the whole painting job done within an afternoon.

After sanding the entire hull...on to painting. Thank you SOOOO much Dan & Cheri !

Before we left Hidden Harbor Marina (which is only 1/2 mile away) we were doing as many projects as possible. It's a bit of a scramble because once we leave the dock...our electricity & water supply are no longer endless...
Jeez...I CAN NOT believe it's been over a week since I did a blog. Guys....we've been working so hard. It is really quite shocking how this 38' sailboat could keep us so busy! Hope you all stay tuned....should be sailing within the next 10 days! Here are some pics of what has kept us so busy....

Scott reconfigured our batteries & put in a new invertor. A vital organ on the boat. It converts all our solar power into usable energy....we don't have electricity without it when we're traveling.. Our new one is much better than our last one & should keep things all charged up!!

Reprovisioning our supplies...

All this stuff...

has to go in an organized manner into lockers like this.

Pantry done! Love my new shelves built by my hubby

Scott discovered one of our spreaders was cracked (very important structural piece) & had to go up the mast & remove it

Which means he has to go back up & put the new one on! Not easy to do 50' up in the air. He has to take tools with him & not drop any little screws & bolts...

one of my least favorite boat life chores....the laundry mat.
This is just a portion of the things that have kept us so busy.
It will all be worth it on a few days!

We also cleaned up & repaired a big leak in our dinghy....

Jib was MOST happy about that!

Love & miss u!!!!
